Talked about The Dark Tower and Game of Thrones this week at M. Pax.
Finally saw the final Harry Potter movie last weekend. We're DVD kind of people in this household, so I'm a bit behind the curve with movies most times.
With that said, Deathly Hallows Part II was a nice conclusion to the series. I felt it could have used a bit more edge and grit. It was very good, but I was wanting a bit more spectacular.
I think I need to read the last book, because I feel as if I missed something about Snape. Probably glossed over in the film in the interests of time and drama, it seemed as if that part needed more time and attention than it got. It left questions reeling in my head. The answers I seek are probably in the book. Right? Those of you who've read it, are they?
My TBR pile is huge - both book books and ebooks. I still haven't finished Perdido Street Station and feel enormously guilty about that. Been reading a lot of ebooks though, which is noted on my website this week - www.mpaxauthor.com/blog/ - also talked about The Gunslinger series this week. I'm dying to get to Tanya Huff's new book in the Confederation series. OK, I'm anxious to get to all of the books in my growing stack.
Have a great weekend everybody.

Yeah, there was loads in the book that didn't make it into the film, or that didn't come across very well. :-/
i'm with you on dvds
just saw part one on hbo a couple wks ago. will get dvds for xmas and watch w/popcorn on my couch =)
Can you believe I still haven't read the books? It's crazy, and I'll get there, eventually. Lol
I've turned into a DVD person too. And yes, the answers are in the book. This weekend, I have the Green Lantern on DVD to watch. Hopefully it won't be too bad. Have a great weekend!
"I think I need to read the last book, because I feel as if I missed something about Snape"
Yep... you did. The last book has HUGE insights into Snape's past... and Aunt Petunia's. It's the grit you've been hoping for and that the movie can never really give you.
That said, I <3 the Harry Potter series, books AND movies :)
I'm a DVD person too, no doubt. I'm getting worse and worse about going to the movies, soon enough I will get to the point where I won't even remember the last time I actually saw something in the theater. For me I feel like it's a sure sign of old age LOL. I used to go to the movies constantly.
I'm a huge fan of the HP books but never really got into the movies. I found the last book totally satisfying and I think it does have the answers you're looking for here. I'm sure I will see this movie eventually, but they've never come close to the books for me.
aw ... my TBR pile is huge as well ... and my TBR list is a million miles long. I need more hours in the day to read!
Pippa - I need to read the last book then.
Tara - We always get dvds 4 the holidays. Hope to find some good ones 4 Thanksgiving.
Miranda - I haven't read any of them either. I've liked the movies.
Christine - The Green Lantern was OK. Slightly above average I'd say.
Thank you, fairbetty. I will add Harry Potter to my growing pile.
Julie - I'm already at that point. I like being able to pause for a rest stop. I like being comfortable & snuggled on the couch with the cats.
Me, too, Margo.
I haven't read the books either. Enjoyed Part II but thought Part I was dull.
If it's any consolation, I only made it up to Book 3 in the series and fell asleep during the second movie. :P
I had a hard time following Part I. It wasn't as exciting though, you're right, Alex.
lol, Lindsay. I'm just curious about the Snape thing. I'm thinking of just reading the last book.
Same here with DVDs. :P
I can't wait to see this movie . . .
I have a huge TBR pile and sometimes wish I had a whole day just to read. Alas... I haven't see the last couple of HP movies because I just felt they left out too much and weren't as good but as others have pointed out, you'll find out tons by reading it.
I was disappointed in the last installment (both part 1 and part 2). I thought the battles were lame.
I have a huge pile of books to read too. HP is on the list. We are waiting for my son to read the books before we watch the DVD's. So I won't be seeing this one for a while. Maybe next summer.
I've read all of HP books and watched the DVD's as well.
Sorry to say, I haven't yet read any HP books and neither have seen the movies!
I felt the same way about Snape.... one day I'll finish reading the series:)
Oh, my goodness. Definitely read the book. The Snape parts are some of the most incredible ones in the entire series. I heard someone say once that there was SO MUCH that couldn't possibly be included in the movie, that they had to look at everything in a "did it happen to Harry or because of Harry" light. Sadly, everything else really was missing.
I have to admit that I've never a page of the books and have only seen a couple of the movies...
I also have a big TBR pile, so maybe someday!
I read the books, but didn't watch the movie.
Mainly because after watching one of the first few, I found myself analysing the bad acting and weird camera shots rather than enjoying the show. I did hear that the later ones were much better though, but was not keen to watch it anymore.
